Nests/houses

Nests/Houses, Darmstadt, Germany 2019

This proposal arised from my admiration to animal construction behaviour, from the language that establishes us as the home of being and from our habitation of contemporary cities. Finding refuge in a tree is a poetic proposal, just like the name of a painting by Max Ernst, Self-Portrait of a Bird. But it might also carry other undertones, if we consider the scarcity and elevated cost of housing, as well as the large amount of people living in city squares and parks.

In the crown of the tree, where the branches are born, I created a haven for birds, which its also a home for our imagination.

Will we end up living in trees as in Italo Calvino’s The Baron In the Trees? That extraordinary vindication of utopia, rebellion, imagination and non-conformism as motors of the world?
