OPEN CIRCLE - site-specific partecipatory art installation. ”Ahora o nunca Now or never” SACO9, 2020. Contemporary Art Festival, Antofagasta, Chile. Materials: old chairs, strips of fabric from old clothes donated by the inhabitants Size: diameter meters 15 x h 0,70/1,20 about

The installation “Open circle” is part of the project “Welcome”. The circle is symbol of eternity and transformations of Nature;  the intertwinings holding together the single chairs, as individuals, are symbol of the relationships needed to address environmental and social issues. The strips of fabric come from old clothes of the people involved in the art-installation process, thus customizing the chair that each one made.

The chairs made by the women of the “Movimiento por una vivienda digna” of the “Campamento Los Arenales” in Antofagasta involved in making the installation, can be read as personal micro-stories to shape an open circle, welcoming: to get inside, to stop for a whyle and then to continue on your way. The work is in dialogue with the harbour where it is installed. The contrast of the colors of the fabric strips represents energy you need.
