Roland Cros

Having worked for about 20 years on blockprints first, then chainsaw engravings, and more recently on volumes, I have produced several in situ artworks. Each time, I have followed the same approach: getting inspired by the place, its environment and context to create pieces able to foster a dialogue between the landscape and its inhabitants. I’m interested in these interactions between an area, a territory and the people living there. For the last five years, I have been resolutely focusing my work on large-scale wood installations, exhibited in public places and in Nature. My goal is to produce pieces which can give the visitors an intense and direct motional experience. These artworks are to be roamed through, to be inhabited, and to interact with… On numerous occasions, the creation of these artworks has given me the opportunity of collaborating with people living in the area of their installation, and to interact with school kids or students. Recently, I had the chance to work with mentally disabled young adults to build a large part of the art piece entitled « Sideral turnip ». I’m producing artworks focussing on man’s place in his own environment and responsibility facing the future of the planet. I try to make my works, like a fuel igniting imagination, asking questions, hustling people or just making them dream…
