WENDY MCGRATH LAKELAND

Wendy McGrath- Lakeland Artist Statement Through research and experimentation, I have discovered my
pathway, a creative process that remains an intense interaction with the land walking, listening,
recording, drawing and painting en plein air before beginning a work in the studio.

The elements of nature, marks from collected materials, shadow painting or birdcalls and translating
these through the intensive processes of printmaking and painting to make unique state works on paper.

The site-specific installations I make are as a response to all of the elements of a landscape and
made mainly from natural materials. Exploring nature, drawing and painting the indigenous plants,
immersing myself whilst reflecting on history and the embedded memory in landscapes are the beginning
towards making a site-specific artwork.

The photograph of the site work becomes the final iteration of the work and shows the artwork and the
site that inspired and activated the work. Limited editions are printed for exhibitions and
collections, and currently my work is represented in private and Public Collections including the
Queen Victoria Gallery and Museum Launceston, Tasmania, the Sunshine Coast Council Public Art
Collection, and the Central Midlands Council Collection Tasmania.
