Negotiating Boundaries

IMG_9912_2.jpg

A collaboration with sound artist ‘Matlali Matabane, this project finds its core in dismantling and
removing a 2km fence in the Tankwa Karoo. From April–June 2025, we will engage in an artistic inquiry
into presence and repair (holding a creative workspace and building relationships via restoration).
This fence, a relic of a sheep farm, gives us increments to understand distance, indeed, in a settler
colonial way from one (beginning) point to another (end point). We repurpose this fence, considering
other separations/boundaries in South Africa, Lesotho, and beyond and create a public program,
installation, and performance at the intersection of local collective history and current restoration
practices.
