EARTH 地 - site-specific living land art installation. “Fragile - Handle With Care” 6th Annual Cheng-Long Wetlands International Environmental Art Project, 2015, Taiwan. Materials: oyster shells, jute sacks, soil, wild local plants Size: meters 30 x 13 x 0,80
I wrote the word EARTH on the wetland in large Chinese characters with 440 old bags filled with oyster shells from nearby fish farms. At the top I planted, with the help of the primary school children, some local salt-resistant wild plants. Oyster shells are the dominant element of the economy and landscape of that wetland, devastated by climate change, in particular by the rise in sea levels. The project involved many villagers of all ages.
